We need to change his initials from DP to DNP

We could name a Keanu Dawes and Christian Reeves front court "Keanu Reeves"

Taylen Kinney is on the US's U18 team. Should be a good stage to assess how college-ready he is.

If we win I will be psyched. If we lose without DP I will blame not having DP. If we lose with DP I will blame the short-term chemistry issues of working him back into the lineup. Either we win or I have an excuse!

    • RE: Kansas Jayhawks vs TCU Horned Frogs 🐸 Game Chat Tues. 1/6 8:00 CT

      Here are the takeaways.

      Positives:

      1. It was nice to be on the other side of an epic meltdown after the Houston and Baylor "games" last year.

      2. DP played 32 minutes.

      3. DP was clutch at the end of regulation.

      4. We showed that, when we play with heart, we can be a very good team (though I guess we already knew that).

      Negatives:

      1. This result was more of a TCU choke than a KU victory, though there were elements of both

      2. We played with absolutely no effort for an unacceptably long time

      3. DP is still cramping

I am very proud of the guys. They had had so many "moral victories" where they played good teams close without DP but came up just short this year. And today they had had enough of that! They made damn sure to get the job done! What a special group

At this point I think it is best to just assume he is done for the year. That way we are prepared for it and if he does come back it will be a pleasant surprise.

Everything you say about JD the past couple of years is correct. I would still argue he made a net-positive impact on the program because he was huge in our upset over Texas which seemed to be the springboard for our rise and he was huge in getting our 2022 team to bowl eligibility (which is one of the best moments in KU football history) but we would have been better without him the past couple of seasons. I am not a Ballard believer. Maybe I am being too hard on him, but I don't think he will be very good and I would prefer to see Marshall start. That said, I think whomever we start will be an upgrade over JD, who cost us so dearly with so many boneheaded turnovers

@MR11 What I like about the big ball lineup is that we would have the size advantage in almost every game, would still be pretty quick, and still have 4 legit three-point shooters on the floor. That is a powerful and uncommon combination. The only issue is that the ballhandling in that lineup would be below average and I was looking forward to finally getting back to a 2PG look.

White would be an awkward fit but you just don't turn down a player of that caliber who knows the system. I reckon we would have to play small ball if he came back, starting Blyden, Kinney, Stokes, White, and Dawes. Another possibility is going a big ball lineup with Blyden (or TK) at the 1, Stokes at the 2 (which he could play), White at the 3, Dawes at the 4, and Mbiya (or Reeves) at the 5.

    • RE: Previewing the 2026 season

The offense will be better this year. JD (who had a good overall career and whom I do not mean to insult) struggled the last couple of seasons and moving on from him will be good for us. Adding coach K will help and the run game should be better also with Dylan Edwards and a bulkier o-line. The defense, unfortunately, will be a highly-damaging liability. We have the same defensive coordinator who has failed us in the past and the same conditioning coach who allows our players to take the field too weak to make a solo tackle.

I don't think it will be a real time share. Ballard will start and Marshall will come in to run some wildcat plays a couple times per game

Tre White is eligible to return to college basketball if he so chooses. He has played well in the G-league so I assume he will try to play in the NBA, though a case could be made that he would make more money returning to college.

The refs are partially at fault here. When the first brawl broke out and they punished both teams equally they sent the message "I guess we're against brawls, but we don't really care who starts them and who is just defending themselves." With that kind of message Keene probably felt like he could attack whomever he wanted and the victim would get just as much blame as him.

Based on what I have read, the argument behind Melvin's lawsuit is that he was accused of rape prior to attending college and that these accusations, which were later dropped, forced him to go the JUCO route against his will instead of going to a D1 school, meaning that it would be unfair to count those JUCO years against his eligibility and deny him a full four years of exposure, NIL earnings, and coaching at the D1 level.

Here is the roster. Kevin Young, Darnell Jackson, and Carlton Bragg appear to be our bigs. A step down from Thomas Robinson and Billy Preston but still very solid.

Tyshawn Taylor is joining too so the backcourt is going to be absolutely filthy.

I got excited when I saw the name DJ Burns on the roster, but sadly it is not the same DJ Burns who led NC State to the final four.
