@Tallturd1 I'm glad someone agrees with me I forgot to mention Jamari , but he has shown as far as i'm concerned to play quality back up minutes
-
@Tallturd1 i do think Kohl will eventually be a reliable shooter. Its really nice to see him find other ways to contribute.

Reports are that Darryn's family want him to be near 100% and so do we.
Yes.. I heard that. I think everyone around him wants him to be safe first.
I keep saying this... few Jayhawk fans really know what we have here. If you've seen him play at full tilt you realize just how off he has been this entire season.
I know he's scored around 17 points or so... but when he's on, he'll cruise to 30 and he'll make it look so easy, regardless of who we are playing. There are only a few players in college today that can impact a game like he can.

OK, so it doesn't bug me the rest of my life, why is @tallturd1 your name?
-
@wissox83 before he answers - I'm guessing he's tall and a turd

@drgnslayr DP will never be at 100% while here at KU or so we will be told, & if he does play it will not be a complete game and we will be told he started cramping again- --then he will be out a few games & Coach will say he is almost there---Rinse & repeat/

@ROCKCHALK2025 in my darkest thoughts I go to that he has never finished a game for us. So maybe he’s afraid he’s not clutch. I notice he came out vs North Carolina when it became clear their guy was the best player on the court. He didn’t play against UConn which would have been the perfect opportunity to come out and show he’s the best.
There’s a part of me that thinks the perception that he is one of the top 3 players in college basketball is already out there so it’s easier to not give any evidence to the contrary rather than attempt to prove he’s number 1.
I just know for sure you’d have to DRAG Melvin off the court in the last 2 minutes of a close game.
I then also think about how the bal sticks when he’s on the court. Will we ever see the ball sing with him out there like it has several times this year as it whips around the court? Is he gonna give up his body like Jamari would for a charge or a loose ball?
At the same time if he plays 15 minutes during that dead stretch vs UConn we win that game. All to say I’m conflicted, I’m disappointed we haven’t see him play to his full potential, and I feel like we aren’t being told the full truth of what is going on. I don’t feel like any of that is owed to us as fans. But it is still sad and frustrating.

@Tallturd1 @approxinfinity Kohl is a first round draft pick in a few years. He reminds me a lot of Christian Braun right now as a youngster. I’m hoping we can keep him, Elmarko, Paul, Samis and Mari. I still see value in having a nucleus of players staying.

Maybe tallturd is actually Hunter D since he was kind of a tall turd?
-
Geez. Just a boot camp nickname from Gunny McClure.
-
I am tall and a turd.
-
A boot camp nickname from being the tallest in Platoon 2015 circa 1969. My government service nickname was Kool.

@Tallturd1 Thanks for serving in a difficult time to serve I imagine.

@Tallturd1 Knew it! Lol

We can't rate DP as a Mesoball player where Jaybate and I used to rate players for their ability to "give it all on the court, or die."
And, come on, really... this teenager is months away from signing his first contract, leading to other contracts worth lotto-amounts. It would be dumb if he went flying for a ball on the court and came out injured and lowered his future value. I know it isn't what any of us want to hear... but we have to settle for his potential to give maybe up to 90% effort, and the extra 10% is for caution's sake.
90% of DP is better than 99.9% of the players currently in D1.
My own opinion... up until now, we haven't seen more than a 70% effort because he's not at full strength.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed we eventually get a 90% DP!

Thinking back... didn't the JoJo back injury at KU continue to nag him in the NBA and slow down his revenue stream, and maybe still part of his health issues?
-
@drgnslayr great point.

I know that since players are getting paid, the attitude has changed from their fanbases and has become much harsher. Is it fair? I don't know... but while we complain about everything they do that doesn't meet our expectations, we also think they don't care about the schools they play for like they did when not played. We can't have it both ways. If we are going to nag on them constantly, it seems natural they will care less about the school and fans.
I blog on other D1 teams' pages, too... One of them is Kentucky... ha... mostly because I'm a Mark Pope fan. His job is impossible because the fanbase expects a Top 5 (or even Top 1) recruit class every year, and that just isn't going to happen. I've been a fan of his since he played at UK and then later with the Bucks, and then into coaching. I hope we never turn into a fanbase similar to Kentucky basketball, or Alabama football. It's a horrible world those programs live in. The pressure is way past anything healthy or constructive.

@drgnslayr Hmmm sounds pretty much like the way a regular job goes. These kids are not College players anymore now getting paid. They have become performers , they don't stand up to the performers expectations ya, people not going to be happy , they going to bitch NIL has ruined the game of College sports. It's not a game anymore for these kids -- -it's become a business, The people who pay all this money want return on their investment
These kids don't care about these schools anymore The Scool; , The name . The Coach , whatever all they care about is the Money anymore.
So then if these kids under preform then the investors in return don't give a rats ass if they catch heat , as they feel like they aren't getting any return so if they get harassed the verbal is warranted.
Yet in the end who is it that REALLY suffers the most - -- it's the true fan of the game- - - - - All we want is our love for our school and to be able to watch a really great talent play
forgot to add kinda varied away , sorry but back to topic - - -- these kids are now doing a job just like John Q public we work and don't fulfill our work what happens ?-Your boss isn't happy, you may get called in the office ---you may be told you need to pick it up , you let your Co workers down-- -same for these players - --you don't step up , play to your potential or find reasons not to play. I feel these guys NOW have a job to do and if they aren't doing their job then they should expect to hear it from others

A good rest for our guys. I don't know if Darryn can come back by the third of January. He will be practicing, lifting, and rehabbing. After evaluation he may or may not be on a minute restriction and he likely will be tentative until he gets bodied up. We on the other hand will be hoping he doesn't get his quad or hammy hurt. Any coach wants to win and Bill said he played Darryn a few more minutes than he had planned. NC State was really good and for that matter UCF presents their own challenge and doesn't mind a shootout. The top of the polls, the ESPN analytics, BPI and Ken Pom lists are littered with BIG 12 teams. This time of the season and after a few more weeks will be littered with great records gone bad. Welcome to 2026.
