Not so fun with the box score!

This one really was defined by the tenacious Iowa State defensive effort. Not an easy place to win, and i don't think we have for awhile. But, i wasn't expecting to be blown out like that. gotta keep the NCAA tourney stats people happy, and that didn't.

        FGs

        KU 19-51 / 37%

        ISU 27-62 / 44%

        TURNOVERS

        KU 13

        ISU 6

        3 PT SHOTS

        KU 6-18

        ISU 11-30

        INDIVIDUAL STATS

Darryn Peterson: 24 minutes played / 10 pts / 3 TOs and doodly squat elsewhere really. A total dud. Fingers crossed he can recover from his ailments quickly. Hard for KU to win with those stats, although you could argue we've won with him scoring zero on the bench! ha. his defense was and has been pretty bad as well lately.

Tre White: 2 points / 4 rebounds / 1 assist / 1 turnover. Tre is in the midst of a statistically awful run. sounds like he has a tooth issue? I hope that explains things, but maybe not if we go back a few games or so.

Flory Bidunga: 11 points / 13 rebounds / 5-13 FGs / 1 block. 11 and 13 is nice, but that FG% is about half his usual. He sure was dribbling around a lot. not a good sign!

        BENCH SCORING

10 points: Once again low output from the bench. But that's actually pretty good for this team. Maybe even more than doubling a usual game. Recents have been 4, 2, etc. How they heck can ya win like that?? crazy.

@Texas-Hawk-10 I could see it. Houston won't turn the ball over like we did and won't let ISU outrebound them. Also Iowa State's 40 footers and sideways corner threes that fell against us won't fall against Houston.

Both teams are insanely physical and strong defensively this will be a race to 60. It won't be a blow out either way.

Teams that played BYU with Saunders played a much better version of BYU.

Any of the B12 leaders that still have BYU on their schedule will have an advantage. Not nearly the test that it was prior to Saturday.

We had five less treys and 12 less points off turnovers. Equals 27 points to the bad.

Very interested to see Iowa St's response after their Super-Bowl Saturday. My prediction is bold but that's why it's that. Iowa St winning would help KU, I just don't see it as a likely outcome.

                        Brutal Loss.

Arizona lost Koa Peat to an undisclosed leg injury that they haven't announced the outcome to as well.

@BeddieKU23 if Houston wins tonight, that’s pretty well it for the conference IMO.

I'm not necessarily predicting an ISU win, I just don't see this game being a blowout either way because of each team's style of play.

Houston shot 34 threes and made 12. ISU bench 25 pts Houston 8 pts. I thought ISU matched up pretty well everywhere but Kingston Flemings scored 22 with 4/6 from three. He is playing like the best Freshman guard in the conference.

The thing with Flemings isn't just that he scores a lot, but that he scores whenever Houston needs him to. It seems like every time their opponent makes a run, Flemings ends it by hitting a tough shot.

How do we open looks for DP? He is being face guarded by a long defender. When he gets the ball he's doubled and gets in trouble picks up his dribble and it's over. We get open threes from the top Elmarko on the wings Tre and Melvin and corner Bryson and Jamari. We shoot the same % from three as Houston and a little less than ISU who had Momcilovic.

The problem is Darryn doesn't know how to pass out of double-teams or break them. He should locate the open man and skip the ball forward to him. This would result in an advantage for the rest of our offense which would either force defenders to stop double-teaming Darryn or allow our offense to thrive without Darryn scoring a single point. However, he either turns the ball over, or panics until Melvin or Elmarko retreats back to nearly half-court as a safety valve allowing Darryn to give up the ball, but forcing us to handle the ball so far from the basket that the defense can easily get into position.

@Jayhawk_69 yes the key to defeating a double team is ball movement. You have to see that double coming and get it out just before they get to you.
